| Patty Duke Fanzine/7" #3 Top Quality Rock and Roll) For the second time now, Mike D (no, not that Mike D) of Top Quality Rock n' Roll has released a Patty Duke Fanzine/ 7" combo. Only this time it's double the amount of bands on two nifty 7-inches. Having never seen the Patty Duke show or pretty much anything else she's been in, I don't really see what the fascination is. But you don't have to be an admirer to enjoy the excellent bands covering Patty hits. The Gore Gore Girls transforms "Don't Just Stand There" from just another pretty pop song into a rocking feminist demand. "Patty's Theme Song" gets likewise treatment from the Chubbies, turning it from a typical Nick At Nite standard into a song you actually wouldn't mind hearing a thousand times. If there's one thing this album wants you to do, it’s to sing along. NYC s Hissyfits almost force you to belt out the lyrics to the hard-hitting "Say Something Funny," while "One Kiss Away" gets the Slumber Party treatment and brings you down a notch with its dreamy vocals. With Tourister, the Beautys and Bidston Moss also lending a hand, you might just want to find out what the deal is with Patty Duke. -J. Li |
